Arthur Conan Doyle
1859–1930
Scottish physician and writer (1859–1930), creator of the detective Sherlock Holmes and Dr John Watson. Across four novels and fifty-six stories he helped define detective fiction. Doyle also wrote historical novels and, in later life, promoted spiritualism.
